UPDATE – Shuttle Bus Time Changes as of 8/23/18

17 Aug Sean O'Brien 4 Uncategorized
Starting August 23rd, there will be TWO buses departing Watkins each morning – one bus for our PK3 and PK4 students, and another for our Kindergarten students. This change was made to ensure that all PreK students have the required booster seats. It may also result in additional space for Kindergarten families wishing to use the Shuttle. Both buses will depart Watkins at 8:30 AM. In the afternoon, all PK3, PK4, and K students will ride on one bus back to Watkins.

At Peabody, pickup & drop-off will be at the front entrance (425 C St NE).
At Watkins, pickup & drop-off will be on E St SE at the corner of 12th and E St.

Student Rules

Students must follow all school agreements. Specifically, Peabody-Watkins Panthers should Be Kind, Show Respect, and Have P.R.I.D.E. Expectations are as follows:

  1. Follow all directions from the driver and monitor.
  2. Stay in your seat.
  3. No eating or drinking.
  4. No yelling or interfering with other riders’ safety.

Parent Rules

In the mornings, parents or caregivers must remain with their children until they have boarded the shuttle.  Parents are not allowed to board the shuttle.

In the afternoons, parents/caregivers must meet their children at the shuttle. PK3-K students riding the bus from Peabody to Watkins in the afternoon must be signed off the bus through the bus monitor.  Any child still on the bus at 3:20 will be escorted to the Watkins main office.

Last minute changes to your child’s dismissal transportation plan are discouraged, but in the event you must change plans, please call the school’s main office in addition to emailing your child’s teacher.  Teachers are involved in instruction and may not be able to access email immediately.

Inclement Weather/Late Bus

In the event of a late bus, parents will be notified by email.  On days that school starts on a 2-hour delay due to inclement weather, the bus will operate on a 2-hour delay. On half-days the bus will operate at the early dismissal time.

    Hi Sean,
I don’t understand he explanation provided in the post for the change in the bus schedule for this school year. Can you clarify why the shift to 15 mins earlier? Also, have the school start/end times changed?

    • Sean O'Brien says:

      Hi Sid –

Thanks for writing. Start and end times for school have not changed. The adjustment in the shuttle schedule will provide uniformity across the campuses and will also help streamline the before and after school process, not just for bus riders but for everyone driving and walking to school. Hopefully this doesn’t cause parents too much in the way of inconvenience but if you have concerns please reach out to Coreil Dickinson, Dean of Students at Watkins, at coreil.dickinson@dc.gov

We have a Kindergartener and a PK-3er. Is there a way for them to ride on the same bus?

    • Sean O'Brien says:

      Hi Eric –

Since the change was based on capacity of the bus and availability of booster seats this may not be possible, but you may want to contact Ms. Dickinson directly with the request. Her email is coreil.dickinson@dc.gov
